THE SCHOOL
Progressive School in Sarpeiman: it was a health problem that the Doctors advice of change of environment that brought us to Sarpeiman. In the year 200, we paid advance rent. We were there on 14th October, 2000 always travelling to Newton Accra. In 2001 as we were on long vacation, a parent meets us and was surprise we were coming from Sarpeiman.
He expresses concern on how the brother’s son was being treated in the school at Accra – Newton. “If my brother’s son gets healed in your school, I promise you I will also bring to you my sick son who cannot walk” he said. So he brought two of his sons to stay over whenever he is gone to work. When School resumes, my wife, Mrs. Martha Kuwornu, couldn’t made it with me to school. On 4th October, 2001, she started to use the hall of my house as a classroom
One faithful day we were having devotion with the children, Alhaji Yakubu, a committed Muslim enters as we were reading from Revelation 3:7-8, he stood and was very happy for what we are doing with the children and also brought some members on board which means the progressive family was not discriminating.
The first name we gave to the school was open door academy
We are told the name we chose the first time had been registered already by another team, without doing double registration which might cause us a great harm in future, we therefore asked them to use the name we used for to register the school at Accra- Newtown. Hence the name was change from open door to Progressive Nursery & Preparatory School, in the year 2005.
Our first population was 4 they were as follows
1. Abdul Alhassan Latif (the weak boy who could not walk)
2. Yakubu Hamza (Alhaji Yakubu’s Son)
3. Opku Nana Adjoa Ursula (my granddaughter)
4. Awuku Daniel
Only one lady teacher came to support in the teaching field (Madam Tweneboah Kodua) but left later.
We came to our current place in 30th September, 2004 after various places we were renting at high cost.
The current population is 150 with over 10 teaching and non-teaching staff. The school runs the G.E.S Syllabus as well as Agriculture. The school runs from Crèche to Junior High Secondary.
The school since then has known to be called Progressive International School and has taken active part in Ghana Education Certificate Examination of which to the glory of Jehovah we had 100% record. We wrote in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
With the help of International Children Fund, who is giving kind hearted to the children and the school body, some our children are also on sponsorship list. You can read more on our sponsorship list and sponsor a child to help our children. Thank you. May Jehovah Our creator bless you and your family for taking one of these children as your own. May you never lack in all that you do.
